HOW TO DEAL WITH ACADEMIC PRESSURE
By: Daniel Shen. Many students have experienced academic pressure. Academic pressure could be resulted by worrying about heavy workload, unsatisfactory test results, low confidence, bad time management etc. Students suffering from academic pressure often end up very miserable. And they don't know what to do. But what can be done to stop this?
In most cases, students get bad academic results due to their own reasons: trying to evade homework, not enough hard work or insufficient preparation for the exams; bad study habits, weak capability of self-control or time management etc.
Of course there are some external factors such as bad study environment and too much workload. Some Extra- curricular activities may also lead to difficulties in time management. Besides, high expectation from parents and tough competition in class or school may also produce pressure on students.
With the popularity of computer and internet, cyber addiction has become the biggest thief stealing students’ time. Students who get addicted to games find it hard to take out some time to do other things, not mentioning homework.
There are actually many simple solutions to all the issues listed above. To deal with bad time management you can make a study timetable. Make sure to have plenty working time every day and gradually set up a good study habit. And if you are stressing out for schoolwork, it is best to relieve yourself by taking a walk or talking to a family member. Taking some time rest or reading books can also work. Try to forget your worries and relax yourself.
Big assignments are important and may worth a lot in your final mark, so you’d better take it seriously when you get one. You can break it down into small sections and finish it in a scheduled time, rather than a big amount to do in one day, particularly not on the last day before deadline.
Cyber addiction can be hard to resist. You must constrain you from the mouse and keyboard. You might want to try to hide the computer and spend more time reading books, and try your best to forget about gaming and texting friends. You might gradually wear the addiction off later.
Academic work is very important. It is vital and helps you get prepared for future study or work. Do not let pressure and depression overwhelm you. Treat it positively and you will have no problem with academics ever again.
