Caffeine for Teens
Recent research has shown caffeine is affecting teens brains. Caffeine is found in many soft drinks such as: Red Bull, Monster and even coffee.
The caffeine is removing significant hours of teens nap time. Hyperactive teens at night cannot concentrate in daytime. Just 10 mg makes a difference. A 12% increase in their sleep time being cut is very significant. 13 year old teenagers can be easily affected by such intake. Kelvin
Nguyen investigates the situation.
One night, I thought it was a good idea to drink coffee. We had a cappuccino at our house so I fired the machine up and poured the milk in.
After drinking I felt very energized...at midnight. So, next morning I was half asleep for school. Probably failed the test that day.
A Zurich research team had taken up the realisation of caffeine for teens and started testing. The team set out and experimented on rats. The results show sleep times to 8.5 hours.
"The biggest concern is that there is a lot of questions about how much is too much, and what the adverse effects are," one of the lead scientist explained. Teenagers are getting most of their caffeine from soft drinks but if the children need more energy; adopt healthy eating habits or get some exercise.
Exercise is a way of which many teens can get more energy flowing throughout the body. It is invigorating as many of them need concentration
to perform well. These activities also encourage fresh drinking water to be consumed as it is healthier than those soft drinks that all these teenagers drink. Healthy foods should be sufficient energy for teenagers to help them stay awake throughout the day and evening. A good breakfast energizes better than an Energizer battery. A decent lunch also provides enough nutrients for the rest of the day and a good dinner will feed you all the way to next breakfast.
Caffeine is found in many plants in the world. These plants use the caffeine as a natural pesticide to kill insects. Chocolate and tea contains caffeine but in smaller amounts than coffee. Sounds like everything we drink contains caffeine.
"The biggest concern is that there is a lot of questions about how much is too much, and what the adverse effects are."
All in all, caffeine should be consumed at a minimum due to the sleep time reduction with in-taking this drug. It is a powerful drug right under our noses.
